Synopsis of Opera Aria: Act 2; The Queen of the night gives her daughter, Pamina, a dagger. She tells Pamina that she is to go and kill Sarastro. Monastatos overhears this particular conversation and later tries to use it to his advantage with Pamina

Notes on this Opera Aria: This aria is often referred to as the "Queen of the Night" aria or the “Vengence Aria.” The upper range of this aria reaches a high F6 – making this opera aria one of the very few classical works known to require that the singer sing that pitch. The first singer to perform it onstage was Mozart's sister-in-law, Anna Hofer née Webber, at the age of 19.

First part of dialogue:

-Where is the boy I sent you?
-He has consecrated himself to Sarastro's band.
-The band?
-Yes.
-Poor daughter. You are now lost forever.
-Lost? Let us flee? Your might will protect me!...
-Protection? My dear daughter...your mother can no longer protect you! With the death of your father, I lost all my power.
-My father?

-YOUR FATHER! He gave the sevenfold sun orb to Sarastro! When he died, he said,
"Here is my last hour. All my treasure are yours...except the sun. Do not try to understand what is hidden from the minds of women. Your duty is to protect our daughter!"
- So is the boy lost forever?
-LOST! Do you see this dagger? It is sharpened for Sarastro! You will kill him, and give the sun back to ME!
-But dear Mother!
-NOT A WORD!

Flauta Mágica - ópera para os pequeninos

E já que tocámos na Flauta Mágica de Mozart, esta produção, é a não perder.
Pensa-se que as crianças não gostam de música erudita, ou de Ópera, mas nada é menos verdade: o defeito está em nós, que entre outras coisas, ainda não compreendemos como as crianças precisam de arte, etc.etc.etc.. Certas óperas, podem até ser muito apreciadas pelas crianças; ao vivo, quero eu dizer; bem cantadas, e, sobretudo para as crianças, bem representadas. O que é preciso é saber como lhas trazer: as crianças entusiasmam-se, naturalmente, através dos aspectos não abstractos; ora a ópera, está cheio deles: as histórias são extremamente simplificadas, constituídas por carácteres em que as diferenças e dicotomias são acentuadamente expressas. Os cenários podem ser coloridos, irreais, mágicos, como pinturas vivas; existe mímica; resumindo: é música dramatizada através de personagens e formas visíveis, é como um conto de fadas a acontecer na realidade...
É assim que as crianças podem ver uma ópera.
Aliás porque há por aí óperas em que o conteúdo intelectual do libretto parece não ir muito além de brincadeiras engraçadas para crianças... (Outros são talvez, sobretudo para crianças, demasiado palermas...)

O ballet clássico, que conta uma história, pode aliás ser um mundo ideal de introdução, prévio à ópera. Mas repare neste filme. Tornar esta história viva, falando dela com as crianças.... e depois um dia levá-las à Flauta Mágica...



Jennifer Rhys-Davies performs the Queen of the Night arias from Mozart's "Die Zauberflote." This is from a cartoon remake (clearly) and is sung in English. It's actually a pretty decent production despite that fact that the whole opera is compressed into 28 minutes.

É que... como há um bocado falei de Anjos... não poderia deixar de falar destre outro...
Nesta ária ouvem-se bem as suas maravilhas. Única!!! Delícia do espírito.

Synopsis: Act 2; Hearing the playing of Tamino's flute, Pamina finds and meets Tamino. Her heart is broken when he refuses to speak to her, not knowing that he has taken a vow of silence in-order to pass a test and win her love. When she approaches him and he apparently ignores her, she sings that she feels as if her life is over.

Notes: Ach, ich fühl's, is considered one of the most beautiful pieces of music in the Magic Flute, and perhaps in all of Mozart Opera. The Orchestral accompaniment presses forward as if desperate heart was beating, and when coupled with the lyric vocal line, shows us Pamina's pain and longing for Tamino.
